Suthwyk Ales was started by Hampshire farmer Martin Bazeley in 2000. This was the first farm diversification project started by Martin, a tenant farmer in the village of Southwick.
When farming came under pressure due to low milk and cereal prices at the time, Martin started to look at the other assets of the farm.
One of which was the ability to grow award winning malting barley on the chalky slopes of Portsdown Hill, overlooking Portsmouth.
Local barley, hand malted by our partners at Warminster Maltings to the Suthwyk specification, ensuring complete traceability. Beers drop Bright very quickly which is useful in emergency
A clear amber with little to no head. A juicy hop aroma, hinting of passionfruit. A smooth mouthfeel with a nice long bitter finish releasing flowery and fruity flavour
A strong citrus hop aroma with a malty background. A very smooth mouthfeel with the right level of bitterness from the hops and an enjoyable lingering bitter finish. The hops are strong in the flavour again, releasing citrus and spiced notes5060016970013
The beer is a SUTHWYK wheat and barley beer, using Saaz and Styrian Goldings hops. Although it has 40% wheat in the malt it is a clear wheaty beer with a dryness that you would expect and a hint of honey in the after taste.
