Staggeringly Good Velocirapture (440ml can, 6.5% ABV, vegan)

It’s hazy, it’s hoppy, it’s festooned with dinosaurs. It can only be another brew from Staggeringly Good of Pompey – their take on the American IPA.

It pours a hazy orange with a rapidly dissolving foam. The aroma and flavour are dominated by the hops, with grapefruit, tangerine and pineapple all fighting for pole position on your tastebuds. It’s intense, but also soft; boozy, but easy to drink. The mouthfeel is as bubbly as champagne, and there’s a certain weight on the tongue from the alcohol and all that suspended yeast.

Velocirapture

The finish is full of citrussy hops, but it’s like all the sharp edges have been knocked off. And it’s juicy enough to make you salivate like one of Pavlov’s dogs.

Staggeringly Good’s new taproom, The House of Rapture, has been open for a while now and is located right next to the brewery itself. If you have any familiarity with the lunatics who run the operation, you won’t be surprised to learn that it’s a dinosaur-themed church complete with stained glass windows, neon cross, and no fewer than fourteen taps of beer (both their own and some guest ales).

Get down there before the meteorite hits!
